Cervical arthroplasty.

چکیده
Anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) is a common surgical technique for treating patients with symptomatic degenerative cervical disc disease, which is refractory to nonoperative therapy.4,5,15 This exposure allows for safe neural decompression, and the arthrodesis effectively halts the degenerative process at the treated segment. Although the results of ACDF are generally in the good to excellent range, single-level procedures do alter spinal kinematics and multilevel procedures compromise global spinal motion. There is currently a tremendous interest in the preservation of the cervical spinal functional motion segment after anterior decompression. This may be accomplished with a total disc arthroplasty. The purpose of this communication is to present some of the data supporting the concept of cervical spinal arthroplasty and review the devices currently in United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA)approved trials.

متن کاملComparison of cervical disc arthroplasty with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
The clinical outcome of cervical disc arthroplasty for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is still controversial. The authors retrospectively compared the intermediate term clinical outcome of cervical disc arthroplasty and traditional anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Seventy-six cases of single-level CSM with a minimum follow-up of two years were retrospectively analyzed. Thi...
متن کاملBryan total disc arthroplasty: a replacement disc for cervical disc disease
Total disc arthroplasty is a new option in the treatment of cervical degenerative disc disease. Several types of cervical disc prostheses currently challenge the gold-standard discectomy and fusion procedures. This review describes the Bryan Cervical Disc System and presents the Bryan prosthesis, its indications, surgical technique, complications, and outcomes, as given in the literature.

Early attempts at spinal arthroplasty in the 1950s yielded limited success. A revival of this procedure occurred in the 1980s and became a realistic treatment option in the 1990s. Both lumbar and cervical arthroplasties have been introduced in the US since 2000 for randomized, prospective studies in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigational device exemption provisio...

PURPOSE Clinical outcomes and radiologic results after cervical arthroplasty have been reported in many articles, yet relatively few studies after cervical arthroplasty have been conducted in severe degenerative cervical disc disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty patients who underwent cervical arthroplasty (Mobi-C®) between April 2006 and November 2011 with a minimum follow-up of 18 months we...
